WATER / SEWER / TRASH SERVICE:

To start water, sewer and trash collection service, an application must be completed along with payment of a $100 security deposit. Fill out the application and pay the deposit at the village office Monday through Friday 8:00am – 3:00 pm. When making an application, you will need to know the service location (address) and when service is to begin.

When making a payment you will need your monthly bill or the information from your account.

Methods of payment: for your application, a check, money order, or cash ($100.00 security deposit)

Methods of payment: for your regular bill, a check, money order, cash (in person only), or you can set up so your bank does an automatic withdraw from your checking account and send the Village a check on your behalf. You are responsible for setting the withdraw up with your bank.

When MOVING OUT of a rental or selling your house, you must notify the village office immediately so our workers can do a final reading of your meter and shut the water off. Otherwise you will be billed for future months whether you are living there or not. We must do a final reading! After your bill is paid in full, you will receive your security deposit.

→ Pool Fill Credit

A rate adjustment may be available for filling a swimming pool if a customer qualifies. The adjustment will be in the form of a sewer credit based on the number of gallons of water used to fill the pool and will be applied to the next billing cycle.

The following must be met to qualify for an adjustment:

  • The credit shall only be granted for one (1) filling per year;
  • The resident shall notify the Village of Bremen at least 72 hours in advance of filling the pool;
  • The resident shall notify the Village of Bremen at least 72 hours in advance of draining the pool;
  • Credit is based solely on meter readings so a beginning meter read and an ending meter read must be taken to qualify for credit adjustment;
  • The credit adjustment form must be filled out completely and turned into the utilities office.

UTILITY SHUT OFF DUE TO NON-PAYMENT:

Customers with a past-due utility bill will receive a letter in the mail giving them ten (10) days to report to the Village Office when they will pay; pay in full in person; or in a dispute show proof of payment. The following Monday after the ten (10) days, the utilities will be shut off without further notice. If your water is shut off there will be a $100.00 charge for a security deposit and an additional $25.00 charge for turning the water back on. Water will not be turned back on after 3:00 pm or on weekends.

PARKING ON THE VILLAGE STREETS:

On-street parking is typically designated to be on the east side or north side of most streets in the village. Certain streets have other posted restrictions. Parking spaces are on a first-come basis. Some spaces are designated for those who have state-issued handicapped placards or tags. Residents are asked to be considerate of their neighbors’ parking needs, and when possible use parking in the rear of their lot off their alley.

All street parking is prohibited in the event of a snow fall event greater than two inches in depth, until the streets can be plowed and cleared. Please have an alternate location to park your vehicle(s) for such snow events. Many times the workers will only spread salt in the intersections for ice or lesser snow amount events.

REFUSE / TRASH AND RECYCLING:

Solid waste is picked up every Thursday. Waste Management is the company we are contracted with. They will pick up anything that one person can pick up by themselves. Upholstered furniture and bed mattresses must be wrapped and sealed in plastic to control the spread of bedbugs. Appliances or televisions must be disposed through another source. Your bill for this service is included in your monthly utility bill.

Any problem with Waste Management’s service should be reported to their toll-free customer service hotline at 1-866-797-9018.

A household recycling drop off trailer is located behind the Bremen-Rushcreek fire station. It is operated by the Fairfield County Community Action agency.
